*NEW ANNOUNCEMENT*
Thank you to everyone who stays up to date with the blogs. My schedule has became super busy, that now we will only do one blog a week on Sundays. This will have a preview to the previous game, preview for next weeks game, and some positivity to start your week.
On to the blog....
Happy Sunday everyone, hope everyone had a good week and is having a good weekend! We have a lot to cover, so lets get down to it!
Friday Night, my team played the the Mt. Vernon Bulldogs in Mt. Vernon for our first league game. I always enjoyed playing there, the scene and the environment over there is all spectacular.
Our performance, on the other hand, wasn't.
Mt. Vernon came ready to play football, they are a really good football team, but I composed a list of what hurt us on Friday.
1) Mistakes
2) Mistakes
3) Mistakes
There were a lot of outside components that hurt us (weather, referees, injuries, ect) but at the end of the day, we shot ourselves in the foot. We missed a lot of blocks, we blew coverage, we struggled to tackle defensively, we didn't come ready to play and they hit us in the mouth.
Thats essentially it, thats all it is.
Those losses, even for a guy not suited like me, are tough, it was hard to sleep that night. It's one of those games you wish you could have back. It makes you feel as a leader or a player that you are failing/have failed. However, like I said in the beginning of the year, we have the potential to be the best team in WESCO, but the only thing that will hurt us is us. Thats all it comes down to.
I've said it before, and I will say it again, we are a good team. I have faith in our guys, we are hungrier than ever. We will get better and be ready to go. 1-0 every week.
JACKSON PREVIEW
THIS IS IT!!!
Ever since they told me back in July that I would be out for a while, this was all I have been thinking about, all I have been dreaming about. Laying in my bed thinking about how I was going to use that hunger to have the best comeback ever, now it's here. A lot of people were wondering why I took this so personally and why I was so upset even though it was temporary, but I had a lot of mental battles that came with it. A lot of times, especially after the past two losses, I felt like I was letting my team down as a captain. The hardest part of this was it was out of my control, but I still saw the effects. I grew from this tough expierience and in the end, I won, and guess what...
I'm back now,
After one week back at practice, I am in the best shape I have ever been physically I have ever been.
Us and Jackson have always played good games. Ben Olson is a Russell Wilson style Quarterback/Athlete and I have a lot of respect for him. However, most of our injured defensive players will be back, and he has yet to play a disciplined defense like us, especially up front. He is going to have a tough match up against us defensively and that is going to be crucial.
They are a solid team defensively, very fast and physical. Having 3 starting O-linemen back this week is going to help counter that, and that is going to be an exciting match up to watch.
The game is Friday at 8pm at Everett Memorial Stadium. It is also senior night, so make sure you show us love and enjoy a win! :)
All in all, this is going to be a fun game from a football aspect. The key to the game is too stop Ben Olson, which is going to be tough, but he hasn't played a defense like ours.
For me, I get chills thinking about it. It's senior night, my first senior game, and my first game back after battling this injury.
Needless to say this is going to be a big, emotional night for me. It is very rare that this happens, but (my) eyes may be sweating before the game.
UPDATE/SUNDAY MOTIVATION
Everything else is great! Off to a great academic start, back to football, leadership group is doing a great job, life is good! Currently been trying to figure out if I will be attending HOCO this year, and I think I figured out who to ask (Not 100% sure yet, TBD ;) )
One thing I challenge everyone to do is do a small act of kindness everyday.
It's easy to get stuck in our own little world and shut everyone and everything else out, I am probably the most guilty of it.
One of the things we really emphasized in Leadership is how we treat others as leaders. In today's society, we struggle with focusing on reaching a destination in life rather focusing on another individuals life, especially those we lead. We say "Hey, how are you?" without meaning it.
When I had my surgery last month, they cut me 4 different times on my body. You can see those scars.
Some people have bigger scars, but aren't visible. They are internal scars. They are struggles or battles people deal with day to day.
The biggest reason people fail to act kind is that they fail to see how their one small act can make a big impact on someone else life. All it takes is one step to show someone you care about them or you appreciate them to make their day, and there scars, better.
Macklemore said, "...you die twice, once when they bury you in the grave, and the second time is the last time that someone mentions your name."
What legacy will you leave when you are gone? This goes in to a huge belief I live by and teach.
Live everyday as it's your last, because you don't know when your last day is.
You dont schedule when you leave this earth. Waking up everyday is a blessing for me, because I know that there is a possibility that I couldn't have woken up again. Everyday is a chance at life, make the best of it! Love others, leave a legacy!
How will you be remembered??
Thanks for reading this week! Be sure to tune in next week as I give more positivity, review the Jackson game, and give a preview for the Glacier peak game!
Have a great week!
