Hello everyone and welcome to the first Wednesday blog!!
You can expect weekly motivation as well as preview to Cascade Football!
To all my classmates, I hope everyone had an amazing first day of school. Mine was eventful, but all in all I can look forward to an exciting Senior year.
One thing that also excites me: Friday, I will be back with my team, cleared to practice, and ready to play against Jackson September 21st. This injury started way back close to the end of July, and now that the end is near, I'm starting to see one of the big lessons this injury has brought me:
Never let your circumstance determines your success/outcome. Here's what I mean.
We all fail, we all make mistakes, and we all mess up, whether it's in sports, in the classroom, or in life. It's apart of life. Here's the issue:
When adversity hits, a majority of people let that one mistake or that one incident ruin the rest of their journey, they continuously dread on that one mistake!
For example, you may fail a quiz or a test. Thats hard on us, especially when we studied. Is it worth losing sleep, crying over, or quitting over? NO! Thats just one assessment! Shake it off, learn from your mistakes, and LET IT GO! MOVE ON TO THE NEXT TEST!!
Athletes, you ever make a bad play, a bad decision, or just upright fail? Hardly anyone will answer no to that question. This is the reason you guys have "bad games." You make a mistake on one play, and it weighs you down the rest of the game. What do I tell my football team when we mess up on a play, you ask?
"Next Play."
This can be used in life! There are 24 hours in a day, 365 days a year, 7 days a week, roughly 150-200 plays in a football game, a couple tests a year, a couple sets in a volleyball match, 18 holes in a golf match, etc! You will mess up, you will fail! If you fail, fail with everything you got, learn from your mistakes, and move on! Next play, next test, next hole! Forget those that are behind you and let it go!! NEXT PLAY
I was struggling with that with this injury, I was angry at everyone, upset, and really emotional. I got real lazy, struggled to do things around the house, struggled to bring energy to people I meet, thought of myself as a failure as a captain, my attitude toward this was affecting everyone else! Your response and your attitude toward something is everything in life! Once I became aware of that, I started to put my feelings aside and continued to be my best self, and it's helped me a ton!
PREVIEW FOR TOMORROWS GAME!
Tomorrow night at 7pm, the Cascade Bruins will take on Bishop Blanchet at Everett Memorial Stadium!
We wasted not time coming off a win. Even with a short week, we had a solid week of practice. Defensively Blanchet is a very fast and physical defense, but I think our offense has prepared really well this week. They don't have big guys, but the people they have are good. Offensively they are good, but they are predictable. In my opinion, the biggest match up of tomorrow will be our explosive defense against their strong running game.
Rest assured, we will be ready to play football.
Max Nelson, Micheal Purl, and Davanta Murphy played great against Everett, expect them to get the ball. Expect Josh Velhagen to get some touches, a great north-south running back, someone who could take advantage of Blanchets lack of size.
Obviously I'm still out (back vs Jackson), but our center, Jesse Dihn, also suffered a high ankle sprain, he will be out. Jimmy Chau will be replacing him, a great, tough offensive linemen who can definitely make alleys for us with the run game. Upfront offensively, we have been fast and explosive all week, we are ready!!
I am excited for tomorrow, it will be a great game for sure!!
Make sure to check in Saturday at 12pm for the analysis of the game. Have a great rest of the week. Go bruins!
